Resume & Cover Letter Reflection
My cover letter is meant to appeal to my possible employer and give an introduction to who I am as well as that I am interested in their job posting. My resume will give insight into the skills and accomplishments I’ve built up over my life to let them know whether or not I may be the right hire for them. Even before completing this project, I knew the significance of a resume and cover letter. In the present day, it can be really difficult to land a job mainly due to the abundance of people that compete for the same position which is where these resumes and cover letters come in. They allow employers to see what sets me different and what I could offer that they may not be able to find elsewhere. This project taught me a great deal of information regarding a resume and a cover letter and ways to make them much more effective. One of the most notable is the use of keywords from job listings that pop up on the resume and cover letter because this allows employers to easily cut the pile of applications in half.
Lab Report Reflection
This project was my first time creating a Lab Report. I found it be a really useful experience because I am certain that there will be many times in my career where one will be necessary or even later on throughout College. Some of the skills that this Lab Report taught me was being able to record and analyze data and then to be able to present what I have observed in a clear manner. I was required to use excel for the first time, to produce graphs which was definitely a great skill to have. I was also able to develop my understanding of probability and a little more as to what it is and what it really can offer.
Proposal Reflection
The Proposal assignment was the first time I had to do something like it. The proposal topic was based around the desire to construct a building and one of the main parts to it was the reason as to why the building should be constructed in the first place. Another part was the layout of it with the costs and other more general information. I’m sure this is true for most people just as it is myself that when I look around at all the buildings in our present day I don’t give much thought to it, but behind every one was a Proposal which was something I came to realize after this. Creating the Proposal was a group project and this helped me to build onto my communication skills and my abilities to work productively among peers. Another skill developed through this project was being able to incorporate a lot of diverse graphs and diagrams to allow whoever the audience may be too easily understand what they are seeing and what different values may represent.
Technical Description Reflection
With this being the last project I had to complete for this semester I can say that this was my favorite. It allowed me to not only research on something that I found really interesting but was also related to the major that I will be pursuing. This project allowed me to build onto a lot of real world skills needed. One of them was the ability to present a dense amount of information in a very transparent way where it was easy to process. Another skill was being able to present alone, the work I had created, to a group of people and seeing what worked well and what could have been better in my performance. One thing I noticed was that even though I may have wanted to get as much information across as possible, it was better to keep my points shorter so the audience didn’t loose focus. Another thing I learned was the benefits of allowing a poster board to be primarily pictures because they grab the attention of the audience much more effectively and if used correctly can communicate a lot of information without needing a speaker too back it up.
